The Milligram Maths Behind a Daily CBD Routine: A UK Cost Guide for 2026

A daily CBD routine can look modest at the shelf: one bottle, one dropper, a few drops each morning. The annual cost is another matter. It depends on the dose you actually use, the concentration in the bottle, how long the product remains usable after opening, and whether delivery or subscription terms quietly add to the total. For UK shoppers in 2026, the useful question is not simply which bottle is cheapest, but which product offers a verifiable cost per milligram alongside paperwork that supports the label.

Start with cost per milligram, not cost per bottle

The first calculation is straightforward: divide the bottle price by the total milligrams stated on the label. A 10ml bottle containing 1,000mg at £30 works out at 3p per milligram. A 30ml bottle containing 1,500mg at £45 also works out at 3p per milligram. The bottles look different and the headline prices differ, but the underlying cost of CBD is the same.

This is why percentage strength alone can mislead. A 10% product contains 100mg per millilitre, while a 5% product contains 50mg per millilitre. Neither is automatically better value. What matters is the total milligrams in the bottle, the price, and the volume you need to reach your intended daily amount. A high-strength bottle may reduce the number of drops required, but it does not necessarily reduce the cost per milligram.

Turn your daily dose into a monthly and annual figure

Once you know the cost per milligram, multiply it by your daily dose in milligrams. That gives a daily cost. Multiply again by 30.4 for an approximate monthly figure, or by 365 for an annual figure.

For illustration, take a product costing 3p per milligram and a daily routine of 20mg. The daily cost is 60p. Over an average month that is about £18.24, and over a year about £219. If the routine rises to 40mg daily, those figures double. At 5p per milligram, a 20mg daily routine costs £1 per day, around £30.40 per month and £365 per year. These are planning figures, not recommendations; daily amounts vary and should be considered with appropriate professional advice where health concerns are involved.

The bottle-size trap

Larger bottles often carry a lower cost per milligram, but only if the contents are used within the period stated on the label and within the product’s shelf life. A 30ml bottle may look like better value than a 10ml bottle, yet if it takes six months to finish and the label advises use within three months of opening, part of the saving is fictional.

A practical check is to divide the total milligrams by your daily dose to estimate how many days the bottle should last. Compare that with the best-before date and any after-opening guidance. If the numbers do not align, a smaller bottle may be the more economical choice. Dropper accuracy matters too. If the label states a specific number of drops per millilitre, use that figure rather than guessing, because inconsistent dosing makes cost tracking unreliable.

Subscriptions: discount or commitment?

Subscription pricing can reduce the cost per milligram, often by 10% to 20%, but it should be judged as a commitment rather than a headline saving. Check the minimum term, cancellation process, delivery frequency, whether prices can change, and whether the discount applies to already reduced products. Free delivery thresholds can also change the maths, especially for smaller orders.

A subscription makes sense when the dose is stable, the product suits you, and the delivery cycle matches actual consumption. It makes less sense if you are still comparing strengths or if a multi-bottle delivery would sit unused beyond the after-opening period. Keep a simple record of order dates and bottle opening dates so that convenience does not become stockpiling.

When a higher price can still be better value

A cheap product with unclear batch paperwork is not a bargain. UK buyers should look for batch-specific certificates of analysis, clear cannabinoid content, THC information, contaminant testing and a label that states total milligrams, millilitres, ingredients and batch details. Where applicable, check whether the product appears on the relevant UK novel food listing. These checks do not prove that a product is right for you, but they reduce the risk of paying for something that cannot be verified.

Equally, a high price is not proof of quality. The sensible approach is to compare cost per milligram among products that meet your paperwork and labelling standards, not to assume that the most expensive bottle is the most trustworthy. At CBD Oil Ltd, our editorial position is that value should be demonstrable rather than implied.

A simple budget template for UK households

List the daily dose in milligrams, the cost per milligram, the estimated days per bottle, the monthly cost, the annual cost, delivery charges and any subscription saving. Add a review date every three months. This makes it easier to see whether a change of product genuinely saves money or merely shifts cost from the bottle to postage, wasted oil or frequent small orders.

A daily CBD habit is a recurring purchase, so it deserves the same scrutiny as any other household subscription. Judge it on cost per milligram, realistic consumption and verifiable quality. That combination is more useful than a low shelf price or a bold discount claim.
